Important Patient Notice - Norovirus Outbreak
Important Patient Notice - Norovirus Outbreak
It is crucial not to visit your GP surgery, hospital, or care homes if you have symptoms of norovirus, such as vomiting and diarrhoea. Norovirus is highly contagious and spreads rapidly in healthcare environments, where it can be dangerous to vulnerable patients and staff.
Key Advice on Norovirus
- Stay Home: Rest and stay hydrated until at least 48 hours after your symptoms have cleared.
- Do Not Visit Healthcare Settings: Avoid visiting loved ones in hospitals or attending GP surgeries, as you could spread the infection.
- How to Seek Advice: If you are worried or need medical advice, call your GP surgery or NHS 111 instead of visiting in person.
- Hygiene Measures: Wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap; do not rely on alcohol gels, as they do not kill the virus.
- Cleaning: Disinfect contaminated surfaces with bleach-based cleaners to prevent the spread.
When to Contact a GP
- If symptoms last for more than 2 or 3 days.
- If you have a serious underlying health condition.
- If you or your child are showing signs of severe dehydration (e.g., dizzy, not passing urine).
